Rooney Ridge Retreat is a small, carefully maintained collection of rooms on a wooded ridge just above Carnelian Bay. We are not a resort — we are a place to rest, wake to mountain light, and use as a calm home base for whatever the lake and the Sierra have to offer.
Our address is 4515 Ridgewood Road, a quiet stretch that drops down toward the water in only a few minutes. In winter, Tahoe’s ski terrain is close. In summer, the lake is close. Throughout the year, the air is cleaner and the pace is slower than you will find elsewhere on the north shore.
We keep the rooms simple and clean, the grounds quiet, and the check-in straightforward. If you are looking for a lobby with a fireplace and a breakfast spread, this is not it. If you are looking for a place that feels like yours while you are here, it probably is.
Rooms for
a short stay
Each room is kept simply and freshly. Linens are changed, bathrooms are cleaned, and the mountain light comes in the same way every morning.
Queen Room
A quiet room with a queen bed, desk space, and a window looking toward the ridge. Suitable for one or two guests.
Double Room
Two beds, a small sitting area, and enough space to spread out after a long day on the water or the trail.
Ridge Suite
Our largest room. A separate sitting area, a king bed, and the widest view of the surrounding pines from any room we offer.

We sit at 4515 Ridgewood Road in Carnelian Bay, a small community on the northern edge of Lake Tahoe. The neighborhood is residential and quiet — not commercial, not crowded.
From here, the lake is a short drive downhill. The closest trailheads are minutes away. In winter, the major Tahoe ski areas are within an easy drive. In summer, the lake is the destination; in winter, the mountains are. Either way, the ridge above gives you both without the noise of the main corridors.
